Albert Druger Passes Beyond

Albert Druger, 73, died October 18 at his home at Sibley after a month’s illness. He leaves his wife, the former Lizzie Muilenburg, and 8 children. All are living, also 28 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. A. Huisman of Alton, and a brother, Sip, of Rockford, Ill.

The children are Arie D., Linn Grove; Mrs. G. Efting, Sibley; John D., Strawberry Point; Mrs. R. Roberts, Sibley; J. Druger, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. D. Van Horsen, Rushmore, Minn.; Mrs. J. Brown, Sioux City; Mrs. L. Walker, Estherville.

Funeral services were held Friday at Sibley at the Reformed church of which he was a member the past 10 years.

Born in the Netherlands, he came to this country with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arie Druger, at the age of 7 years. The family located at Alton in an early year and resided here for a long period.

Albert Druger, 72, Succumbs at Home

Funeral services for Albert Druger, 72 year old resident of Sibley, will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the Peter Muilenburg residence and at 2 o’clock from the Holland Reformed Church with the Rev. D. J. Kolenbrander in charge. Mr. Druger has been a resident of Osceola county for many years. He was born in the Netherlands March 17, 1867. He passed away yesterday morning at his home in Sibley. He was a retired farmer.

His death certificate has Albert Druger, born March 17, 1867 in the Netherlands; parents Arie Druger and Florence Kupido; wife Mary Elizabeth Dwyer; occupation farmer, last worked at this occupation in 1924; resident of Sibley for 22 years; died at 10:00 a.m. October 18, 1939; cause, carcinoma of stomach, onset Dec. 1938.

His FindaGrave.com page has him as Albert “Al” Druger, born 18 March 1867 in West-Terschelling, Friesland, Netherlands; buried in Holman Cemetery, Sibley; parents Arie Druger (1835-1910) and Vrouwtje Cupido Druger (1842-unknown); eight siblings listed; wife Mary Elizabeth Muilenburg Druger (1871-1960, married 1892). An added note says he was born Albert Droeviger. There is a photo of the joint headstone of him and his wife.

WieWasWie.nl has a birth index entry for Albert Droeviger, parents Arien Jans Droeviger and Vrouwtje Pieters Cupido, born 18 March 1867 in Terschelling, Friesland.

The 1900 U.S. census shows him and his family as residents of Alton: Albert Druger, age 32, born March 1868 in Holland, immigrated in 1875, naturalized, a day laborer, married 8 years; wife Mary E., age 29, born in Iowa, mother of 4 children, 4 living; children Arie (6), Mary (5), John (2), and Flora (1), all born in Iowa.

An article in the Alton Democrat (June 13, 1914) about a devastating tornado that hit eastern Sioux County says that Al Druger, a former Altonite, renting the F. E. Frisbee farm, lost all of the farm buildings, the family’s household goods, 3 horses and 2 cows.

In the 1920 census he (age 53) is living in Sheldon, working as a carpenter, with wife Elisabeth (47), children Jasper (14), Albertha (11), and Johana (5), widowed daughter Florence Meyers (21) and her daughter Leona (10/12).
