DAVID COULTER AMSWERS CALL AT AGE 81---BROUGHT FARM NEAR HAWARDEN IN 1884---MOVED TO TOWN 15 YEARS AGO ON ACCOUNT OF ILL HEALTH

David Coulter, one of the old time residents of this vicinity, passed away at his home in this city at 4:30 A.M. Tuesday at the age of 81 years. Mr. Coulter had been in ill health for a number of years but the immediate illness which resulted in his death was only of about ten days’ duration.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the M.E. Church, conducted by Reverend W.A. Winterstein, and interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

David Coulter was born in Simco, Canada, in May, 1841. When a young man he went to Ishpeming, Michigan, but after spending four years there he returned to Canada where on October 14, 1872, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Swigger. Immediately following their marriage they went to Michigan where Mr. Coulter was employed in an iron foundry for about four years. In 1876 they moved to Cherokee County, Iowa, where they engaged in farming for eight years, coming to Hawarden in 1884 when Mr. Coulter purchased the fine farm, two miles southeast of town, which he still owned at the time of his death. Mr. Coulter’s health commenced to fail and they purchased a home in Hawarden and have continued to reside here.

Besides his widow, he is survived by one sister, Mr. Joseph Barrs of Forestville, Michigan.
