Milton David Brue was born July 14, 1943, to James and Elsie (Malde) Brue of rural Viborg/Centerville, SD. David attended country school in rural Viborg, high school in Centerville, and graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in 1961. After high school, David attended UMD, graduating summa cum laude in 1965, and then went on to obtain his PhD in mathematics at the University of Minnesota in 1968. On June 12, 1965, David married Susan Thompson of Superior, Wisconsin. He then went on to teach at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, and then later at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Midlife he retired from teaching to take over the family farm where he raised sheep. After a few years of full-time farming, he received the Master Lamb Producers Award in the state of South Dakota.

He loved to work with his hands, designing and building two homes for his family. He had a special love for various types of music, from classical to southern gospel. Nothing gave him more joy than having the whole family singing around the piano. David was quick with a pun and loved telling jokes to the grandkids, whom he loved to make laugh. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, a wise father, and a man of deep faith in Christ.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife, Susan, two sons, and two daughters. Jill (Terry) Friend, Ethan (Donna) Brue, Sonja Brue, Colin (Kirsten) Brue and 8 grandchildren. Nathan (Bethany), Emily (TJ), Derek, Kinza, Jaren (Claira), Rylan, Hyatt, Simeon, and 2 great grandchildren, Isaiah and Ava, his four brothers, Sanford (Mary), Boyd (Lois), Eldon (Cheri), and Paul (Kathryn) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Don and sister-in-law, Verna Mae and his sister Beatrice.
