Adella Hulstein age 81 of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Stephen Breen and Rev. John Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Visitation will be Friday, March 19th with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

In lieu of flowers family wish memorials which will be directed to Hope Haven and Okoboji Bible Conference Ministries.

Adella Fern (Juffer) Hulstein was born on September 13, 1939 to Wilmer (Bill) and Jeanette (De Vries) Juffer in Sioux Center, Iowa. Growing up surrounded by all things Purina (her dad started Sioux Feed) she received a technical school degree as a Lab Technician from a school in Minneapolis where she worked for her living expenses as a maid for a wonderful Jewish family who remained dear to her for many years. She married Wilmer John Hulstein on March 5, 1960 at First Reformed Church. She worked for a year for Dr. Oelrich until Wilmer wanted her to be home with him on the farm because macaroni and cheese was getting stale to eat. They spent their first anniversary in the farrowing house delivering baby pigs. She was a farm wife until they moved to town in 2002. You could find her in the field knitting as she patiently waited for the combine to dump its load and for someone to take an empty wagon to her so she could move to another tractor.

She was a life-long member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center serving as a Sunday School Teacher for the very young to adult Sunday Schools. She was a biblical scholar constantly working to know more about the Word written in the Bible. Always wanting to know more and dig deeper she studied faithfully so she could teach others. She attended Circle Bible Study and served faithfully at Triennial for Women’s Ministry in the Reformed Church. She desired for everyone she taught to find their eternal security in Jesus. God was truly central in her life.

Adella served for many years as an Area Agency School Board Member constantly promoting programs and staff to help all children with any need they had so they could be educated. She was recognized by Governor Branstad in 2014 for her 27 years of dedication to Iowa’s Children and their education as a volunteer.

Adella and Wilmer started camping with their young family in 1975. Eventually traveling with their children through many states to show them the country that they lived in. She and Wilmer loved traveling and took their camper to Alaska and Mexico along with everywhere in between. They wintered many years in Florida and eventually spent their winters in Arizona. They also traveled around the world seeing Japan, The Holy Land, and a few trips to Holland to visit family and see where their prospective family lines came from.

Adella is survived by her spouse Wilmer and her three adopted children: Anne (Scott) Gray, Jane Hulstein, and Jon (Tonya) Hulstein. She adored her 5 grandchildren; Dustin (Stacey) Vander Waal, Derek Vander Waal, Alexander Gray, Samuel Rieken, and Michaela Gray. She lived long enough to cherish 3 great-grandchildren, Mason Vander Waal, Scarlet Vander Waal, and Shaelee Vander Waal. She is also survived by her brother, Gerry (Wilma) Juffer and two brothers-in-law, Roland Hulstein and Glen Hulstein; along with 4 nieces and 2 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jeanette (De Vries) Juffer and her in-laws, Gerrit & Helen (Beernink) Hulstein.
