Eunice Raak Scholten age 97 of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, February 22, 2021 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Masks and social distancing are requested.

Eunice Menning was born on December 19, 1923 in Newkirk, IA, the daughter of Simon and Dena (TeGrotenhuis) Menning. She grew up in Newkirk and later graduated from Newkirk Consolidated School.

On February 23, 1945, she was united in marriage to Dennis Raak. For 37 years, she was a partner to Dennis on the farm raising their five children; David, Marlene, Lora, Sandy, and Rachel.

Eunice was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where she was active in Circle, Choir, Library, Women’s Guild, Quilting Group, Sunday school and catechism teacher. After moving to Sioux Center in 1980, she was an active volunteer at Kinsey Elementary School library and in the classrooms. She was on the Auxiliary Board of Hope Haven and Inspiration Hills.

Her husband Dennis died on July 21, 1982. Eunice taught Friendship Class and was a hospice volunteer for over 20 years.

Eunice’s passions in life included; quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, and reading.

On May 28, 2005, Eunice married Ed Scholten and they continued to live in Sioux Center.

Eunice is survived by her husband of 15 years, Ed Scholten of Sioux Center, IA; five children, David (Julie) Raak of Ryan, IA, Marlene Raak of Orange City, IA, Lora (Roger) Haug of Pella, IA, Sandy (Roger) Langstraat of Mesa, AZ and Rachel (Lynn) Gunderson of Jefferson, IA; 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; six step-children, Natalie (Ed) Brummel, Betty (Roger) Vande Griend, Donna (Glen) Vander Ark, Lorna (Dennis) Dykstra, Deb (Harlan) Moret and Ed (Lanae) Scholten; numerous Scholten grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Brown; sister-in-law, Fannie Menning; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Dena Menning; first husband, Dennis Raak; four brothers, Virgil, Harold, Marion and Norman Menning; and three sisters, Esther Boone, Sylvia Hornsby and Evelyn Brink.
