From the Sioux County Capital, December 22, 1938:

Marvin Kluis, 5, died at the De Bey Hospital Tuesday, December 20 at 6 o’clock P.M. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kluis and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church at Maurice with the Reverend Mr. J. Roggen officiating.

From the Alton Democrat, December 30, 1938, Maurice news:

Marvin, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kluis, passed away at the De Bey hospital in Orange City Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the age of five years, four months and five days, following an illness of several weeks. He had been treated at the De Bey hospital for the last three weeks until his death which was caused by Typhoid fever.

The little fellow was born on a farm near Orange City on August 15th, 1933, where he lived until about a year ago, when he moved with his parents to a farm ½ mile north of Maurice.

Besides his parents he leaves two sisters, Morley Mae and Wanda Arlene, his grandparents and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the First Reformed church here Thursday afternoon with Rev. J. Roggen in charge. Burial was made in the Sherman Township cemetery.

His death certificate adds his parents, Dick Kluis, born in the Netherlands, and Bertha Hofkamp, born in Lismore, Minn.; died at 5:15 p.m. December 20, 1938, of typhoid fever.

An obituary in De Volksvriend gives his full name, Marvin James Kluis. The Sioux County Cemetery Index has him as Marvin J. Kluis, p. 1933, d. 1938, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A., Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice IA.
