From the Sioux County Capital, December 22, 1938:

Glenn E. Whitwood of Long Beach, Calif., passed away last Tuesday evening at the W. J. Grotenhuis home west of Sioux Center. He had been visiting at the Grotenhuis home since November 30 and first became ill with the flu with later complications aggravating his condition. His brother, Ira Whitwood, and his uncle, J. L. Smith of Eldora, Iowa, arrived in Sioux Center in time to attend the young man before his death. The body was shipped by train to Long Beach Wednesday.

Mr. Whitwood was 35 years of age and an electrical mechanic by trade. He had moved to Long Beach with his parents in 1927 and met the W. J. Grotenhuis family there.

His death certificate gives his name as Glen Ellis Whitwood, single, resident of 1033 Orizaba Ave., Long Beach, Calif.; occupation, janitor, for 3 years, last worked at this occupation in March 1938; born June 5, 1903 in Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa; parents James Hendrick Whitwood, born in Eldora, and Fanny Nelson, born in Whittier, Iowa; informant Ira Whitwood; died in Sioux Center at 7:05 p.m. December 13, 1938; cause, acute nephritis, onset Dec. 9; contributory cause, influenza, onset December 4.
