Obituary
This Monday morning, the most sensitive blow of my life struck me because our beloved husband, Henry E. Van de Brake, was taken from me relatively unexpectedly by death, in the age of 44 years and over six months, leaving me with six children, of whom most are too young to realize the loss. He testified of his willingness to die, and we console ourselves with the blessed thought that dying was not far from a single gain, The sorrowful widow, Mrs. H. E. Van de Brake and children at the Sioux Center 7 October 1918

In another article:
Monday morning the message went through our site Henry E. Van de Brake passed away. The report was so shocking. Because the end came unexpectedly. However, Mr. Van de Brake, as was well known, was suffering from an ailment of a serious nature, but the deceased was so active to the last days that no one thought that his end would come so soon. Last week he had been to Camp Pike to visit his brother Bert. It seems that that trip was too much for his strength, at least his father-in-law Mr. Jouke Mulder told us that he came home exhausted on Thursday. He has been sick since then and on Monday morning at 8 o'clock he exchanged the temporary with the eternal, at the age of 40 years and more than six months. The deceased was already ailing while suffering from (diabetes?). He leaves a concerned young widow with six young children around his departure, in addition to his late mother and brothers and sisters. The wife of the deceased is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jouke Mulder..
The funeral is on Thursday. Half past one at home and two hours in the First Ref Church. Of which congregation the deceased had been a member since for years and for quite some time has worked as a teacher in the Sunday School of that congregation. We express our condolences to the sorrowful widow and her children and to the rest of the family.
