Kay Theeler, 80, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. Reverend Paul Bormann will celebrate Mass with Deacon Richard Port assisting. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Social distancing and wearing a mask will be required. Services will be uploaded to the funeral home website following services. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Kay Carol Niehus was born January 16, 1941 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Adeline (Wolbers) Niehus. She attended grade school at St. Catherine’s in Oyens, Iowa and later high school in Remsen, Iowa. She graduated from Remsen St. Mary’s. Following high school, she attended beautician school.

She owned and operated Kay’s Stylette in Akron for several years. Later, she worked as a beautician for a beauty shop in Akron.

She was united in marriage to Steve Theeler on July 17, 1971 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. After working at the beauty shop for a few years, she went to work for Custom Coils in Alcester, South Dakota until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. She and Steve enjoyed attending many Iowa Firefighters Association Conventions throughout the state. Kay enjoyed Christmas shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons, Wayne (Rachel) Theeler of Le Mars, IA and Brad (Maureen) Theeler of Akron, IA; 5 grandchildren: Alesia (Tyler) Ode, Daniel Larson, Andrew Theeler, Johanna Theeler, and Elizabeth Theeler; 2 great grandchildren, Oak and Ivy; two siblings, Ralph Niehus of Le Mars, IA, and Donna Frerichs of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Adeline Niehus; her husband, Steve Theeler; and 4 siblings, Doyle Niehus, Jim Niehus, Pat Niehus, and LaVonne Niehus in infancy.
