Lammert Top was born July 12, 1839, in Oldebroek, Gelderland, Netherlands. He arrived in America April 8, 1866 to Alto Wis. And married 20 Jul 1874 with Hermina Te Krony. This marriage was blessed with 5 children, 2 of whom died in their youth. May 7, 1881, the family settled in the vicinity of Goodwin, now Bemis, SD., Where Mr. Top a homestead. In Aug of the same year mother died. The following year in February he married Lammertje Bredeweg from Alton Wis. The second marriage was blessed with 9 children, one of whom died at a young age. In 1889 the family moved to Newkirk, Iowa and later settled in Sioux Center. Although father was brought up in a family, the spiritual life in himself rose to great glory when he was 19 years old. Ever since that time it was his desire to live for the Lord. He liked to talk to everyone about the things of the Kingdom of God. He died Friday morning. Sep 18, 1925, soft and calm. At the age of 86. We trust that where his life was for Christ, his death is gain to him.
