Former Orange City Girl Passes Away

Mrs. Leona Connelly of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Sunday night, according to word received by relatives at Orange City. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Jones of Le Mars, she was greatly admired and loved by all who knew her and her passing at the age of 32 has caused much sadness.

Her brothers, P. G. De Jong and wife, also Mrs. Herman Luymes, all of Orange City, and Jack Tyndall of Le Mars, left Tuesday morning for Oklahoma City to be present at the funeral services on Wednesday.

She is survived by her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Master of Des Moines and Mrs. Richard Tyndall of Merrill.

Mrs. Connelly had been in poor health for many months with a heart weakness caused by an illness.

MRS. ANDY CONNELLY

Mrs. Andy Connelly, nee Leona Louise Jones, died at Oklahoma City following a heart attack on Sunday, May 29, at the age of 34 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Jones of Le Mars. She was born at Le Mars on October 10, 1904. She attended the Le Mars school and upon graduation took nurses training at the Methodist hospital at Sioux City.

On July 31, 1925 she was united in marriage to Andy Connelly who survives her. She is also survived by two children, James Andrew, 9, and Mary Beth, 6, her parents, two sisters, Vera, Mrs. Harry Masters of Des Moines and Mildred, Mrs. Richard Tyndall of Merrill.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church at Oklahoma City. Interment was made in the city cemetery.

Her FindaGrave.com page gives her full name as Leona Louise Jones Connelly, born 10 Oct 1904 in Le Mars, died 29 May 1938 in Oklahoma City, buried in Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City, with a photo of her headstone. Parents Leon Lewis Jones (1877-1950) and Tryntje Hendrika De Jong Jones (1879-1957). Husband Andrew F. Connelly (1906-1962, married 1927). There is a brief obituary from the May 31 Oklahoman.

Her South Dakota marriage certificate shows groom Andrew F. Connelly, age 21, residence Sioux City, and bride Leona L. Jones, age 22, resident of Le Mars, married in Elk Poiint, South Dakota, July 31, 1927.

Dutch Reformed Church membership records on Ancestry.com shows the Jones family to be members of the First Reformed Church, Orange City, with Teuntje having been received into the church in 1899.

In the 1930 census Andrew F., Leona, and their one-year-old son James were living in LeMars, where Andrew was working as a barber. Information on his FindaGrave.com page shows him to have been assistant director of the Oklahoma Work Progress Administration in the 1930s.
