Sioux County Independent Calliope News of Jan 11, 1883

McClure, Lizzie E. McClure wife of W. D. McClure, died on Sunday evening Jan 7th 1883 of pneumonia at the age of 43 years. Mrs. McClure was born in West Virginia where she lived until after marriage, wen she went with her husband to Washington County Ohio and then to this place in the spring of 1878. She as long been a member of the Presbyterian Church and was always consistent in her belief in regard to the bright and future world. She was of an affectionate and kind disposition made a kind and loving mother and memory with her friends. In all her deeds nothing but kindness and sincerity for the needy was known. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her untimely death.

In the 1880 census W. D. McClure was 50 born OH. Elizabeth E. was 40 born West VA. They were living in Buncombe Tsp. Sioux County IA. Children Harry 16, Grace 14, Alva 12, Arthur 10, Lulu 7

Research note: A family history on ancestry.com (by others) lists William D. McClure born Apr 1830 Washington Co. OH died 24 Jan 1913 Springfield MO, wife was Elizabeth E. ‘Lizzie’ James born Jul 1840 Point Pleasant Mason County Virginia died about 1883 Buncombe Sioux Iowa, her parents were Lemuel Hiter James 1811-1855 and Mary Ann Redmond 1817-1854.
