Rudd, Sarah born 1806 Onondaigua Co. NY, died 10 Jun 1883 Calliope IA. Mrs. Leonard buried in Grace Hill cemetery Hawarden IA.

The dates on the tomb stones are questionable as has Leonard 1801-1881 and Sarah 1811-1886. They both have incorrect dates. The records below substantiate the death dates of Leonard 1803-1881 and Sarah 1806-1883.

The Independent of Hawarden dated Jun 13, 1883 had the following death article.
Rudd – died at the residence of her son H. H. Rudd on Sunday Jun 10, 1883 Mrs. Sarah Rudd age 77 years.
Mrs. Rudd was born in Onandaga County, New York in 1806, and was the last survivor of a family of ten children. For a number of years past she had been a resident of Lodi, Dakota, but came here during the winter to live with her son. She was taken sick some two weeks ago and steadily failed in strength until Sunday afternoon when death relieved her of her suffering. Her funeral took place Monday and a large number of relatives and friends followed her remains to their last resting place

1880 Leonard Rudd 176 born 1804 Vermont living in Lodi, Clay Dakota, wife Sarah age 73 born abt 1807 New York, son Andrew E. Rudd 46.

Research note – From a report done on ancestry.com (by others) lists Leonard Rudd born 3 Jul 1803 Rutland Vermont, married 1822 Lysander Onondaga New York to Sarah Elizabeth DePuy 1811-1886 (actually 1806-1883. (appears the dates were lifted from the tombstones) Sarah was born 8 Aug 1811 (1806) Lysander Onondaga New York died 8 Jun 1886 (1883). Her parents were Benjamin De Puy 1764-1842 and Arietta Van Auken 1769 – 1829.

Assumption on the errors on the tombstones is that they were done some time after their deaths as Leonard died in Lodi SD in 1881 and Sarah died in 1883 not 1886, buried in Hawarden. Either the family forgot the dates or the inscriber made the mistake.
