Mr. Patrick Busby, age 63, of Alton, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held this coming spring. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is assisting the family.

Patrick Dale was born on March 17, 1957, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of William and Laura (Wagner) Busby. Because of his father’s position in the military, Patrick spent his childhood in numerous different communities around the country before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.

After serving in the Marines, Patrick lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where he met Sylvia Schlichte, a college student living in Council Bluffs. They were married on September 7, 1985, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. The couple first made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada, and after briefly living in Springfield, Missouri, they settled in Alton, where they raised their two children.

In earlier years, Patrick worked as a security guard and as a cable lineman. Later in life he was employed at American Identity and Silent Drive, both in Orange City. He was a member of the Living Water Community Church in Orange City where he enjoyed participating in Sunday worship. He also liked to watch football and was an avid Packers fan. His family will miss his practical jokes and unique sense of humor; and they will always remember him, secretly, as a true gentleman.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; and his son, Eric Busby, both of Alton; his daughter and her fiancé, Lisa Busby and Karl Mann, of Canton, South Dakota; two brothers, William Busby, Jr., and his wife, Shari, of Mentor, Ohio, and Roger Busby, of Ypsilanti, Michigan; a sister and her spouse, Linda Busby and Marilyn Kudera, of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; and his wife’s family, including her mother, Dolores Schlichte, of Sheldon; her three brothers, Jeffrey Schlichte, of Springfield, Missouri; Jim Schlichte, and his wife, Jennie, of Granville; and Ron Schlichte, and his wife, Tracey, of Osceola; her three sisters, Joanne Schlichte, of Orange City; Debra, and her husband, Mohamed Ben Saida, of Granville; and Heidi, and her husband, Dave Feldhaus, of Oldham, South Dakota; along with several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Clifford Schlichte; three brothers-in-law, James Denny, Donald Schlichte, and Larry Schlichte; two sisters-in-law, Judy Schlichte and Heidi Schlichte; and a niece Cassandra Schlichte.
