Funeral services for Gladys J. Elgersma, 73, of Sheldon, were held on Monday, February 2, at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon, with Reverend John Engbers officiating. Interment was held in the East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon. The Sheldon Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys, daughter of John and Johanna (Rutgers) Donkersloot, was born on February 1, 1930, in rural Sanborn, where she lived her youth. She attended Sanborn Christian Grade School. She attended, and graduated from, Western Christian High School in Hull. She attained a teaching certificate and taught at the Sheldon Christian Grade School, in Sheldon, for two years.

She was united in marriage to Earl Elgersma of Hartley, on June 1, 1951, in Sanborn. They lived in Hartley and Primghar. In 1957 they moved to Artesia, California. In 1965 they moved to Sheldon, where they continued to live, and own and operate Elgersma Refrigeration Service.

Gladys was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she was a member of the Goldon Hour Society and Couples Club. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and assisting her husband with their business.

Gladys entered Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon in August of 2003 due to failing health. She passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2004, at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 28 days.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Earl; one son and daughter-in-law Galen and Shirley Elgersma of Sheldon; three daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Doug Post of San Jose, California; Lavonne and Larry Andringa of Sibley; Jan and Dennis Yergler of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren: Melanie Post of Sheldon; Rachel and her husband Randy Lamfers of Madison, Wisconsin; Leah Post of Boston, Minnesota; Sara and her husband Jerry Hofman of Sanborn; Amber Post of Boston, Massachusetts; Naomi Elgersma of Sioux Center; Seth Korver of Rock Island, Illinois; Philip Elgersma of Sheldon; Dane Korver of Cedar Rapids; Derek Post of San Jose, California; three great-grandchildren: Titan and Colt Hofman, Ethan Lamfers; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Gert Donkersloot of Sheldon; Matilda and Don Alons of Sanborn; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Ray and Alyda Donkersloot of Luverne, Minnesota; Albert and Marie Donkersloot of Bigelow, Minnesota; Marv and LuAnn Donkersloot of Sheldon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Hank Donkersloot.
