From the Sioux County Capital, May 19, 1938:

Mrs. A. Aberson, 81, died in Alton at the home of her son Joe Aberson Thursday morning of a heart attack. Mrs. Aberson was preceded in death by her husband Antone Aberson who died in 1918. The Aberson family came from The Netherlands 27 years ago. With the exception of a few years that the family lived near Everly they have lived in the Alton vicinity.

Mrs. Aberson leaves six sons, Gerrit. Joe, Antone, Gysbert in the Alton vicinity, Henry in Dickensen, N. D., and John at Rock Valley and one daughter (Nellie) Mrs. P. Leenhouts in Alton, besides a number of grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Reformed church in charge of the pastor Rev. Van Engelenhoven.

Mrs. A. Aberson Passes Beyond

Elbertha Marie Vander Mheen Aberson was born at Barneveld, the Netherlands, on Dec. 9, 1857, and passed away at the home of her son, Joe Aberson on May 12, 1938, having attained the age of 80 years, 5 months and 3 days.

On June 15, 1883, she was united in marriage to Mr. Anthony Aberson and to this union 8 children were born, two dying in infancy. The family came to the United States in July, 1911, and have resided in the vicinity of Alton since. On Nov. 10, 1917, Mr. Aberson passed away and since that time she had made her home with her family.

Mrs. Aberson was a devoted and loving mother, a faithful life-long member of the Reformed church. She is survived by one daughter and five sons, as follows: Nellie, Mrs. P. Leenhouts; Joe L. Aberson, Anthony and Bert, living in and around Alton; Henry, Dickinson, N.D.; and Rev. J. Aberson, Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, at one o’clock at the home and at two o’clock at the First Reformed church. The Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven was in charge of the services. The remains were laid to rest next to her husband, at Nassau Township cemetery west of Alton.

Her FindaGrave.com page has Mrs. Albertha Marie Van Der Meehn Aberson, born 9 Dec 1857 in Barneveld, Gelderland, Netherlands, died 12 May 1938. It gives her husband as Antoni Aberson (1857-1917), and lists four of her children. There is a photo of their joint headstone.

Her death certificate has her as Elbertha M. Aberson and adds time of death as 3:45 a.m., May 12, 1938; causes, myocardial insufficiency, onset 1936, and auricular fibrillation, onset 1935.
