De Jong, Marvin Del "Mar Del" 1968-2020

Mr. Marvin Del De Jong, age 52, of Sioux Center, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020, at his mother’s home in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, December 30, at 2:00pm, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, from 12:00pm to 1:30pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Marvin Del was born on November 1, 1968, in Orange City, the son of Marvin P. and Delores June (Kuiper) De Jong. He was raised in Orange City, where he attended the Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School.

Following his graduation from high school, “Mar Del”, as he became known, worked with his father at De Jong Plumbing and at Diamond Vogel Paint, both in Orange City. He then made his home in Sioux Center, where he worked for the City of Sioux Center, Link Manufacturing, Art’s Electric, Neal Chase Lumber, and B&B Plumbing, all in Sioux Center, as well as maintaining the car washes in town.

He was currently a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City and had previously been a member of the New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper, and enjoyed being able to share his skills with others that wanted to learn. He also liked to spend time with his nieces and nephews and with his many friends, all of whom were important to him.

Survivors include his mother, Delores, of Orange City; his sisters and their husbands, Clarine and Doug Koedam, of Lone Tree; and Donna and Gilbert Dykstra, of Honey Creek; twelve nieces and nephews, Angie, and her husband, Chuck Miller; Amy, and her husband, Whitney Hartman; Jeremy Koedam; Jessica, and her husband, Jordon Cave; Seth Dykstra, and his wife, Laura; David Dykstra, and his wife, Ruth; Michael Dykstra, and his wife, Elizabeth; Rebecca, and her husband, Micah Swab; Joseph Dykstra; Levi Dykstra, and his wife, Hannah; Daniel Dykstra, and his wife, Hallee; and Nathanael Dykstra; and 23 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Marvin P.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Luke Society.
