Mrs. Arletta Dorhout, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a private family funeral service on Wednesday, December 16, at 11:00am, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. The Rev. Aldon Kuiper and the Rev. John Klompien will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation without the family will be on Tuesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Arletta Ann was born on September 18, 1938, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Ray B. and Ann (Van Otterloo) Mulder. She grew up in rural Rock Valley, where she attended country school, and later Rock Valley Christian School, before graduating from the Western Christian High School in Hull.

She was united in marriage to Nicolaas “Clarence” Dorhout on March 8, 1957, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. They made their home in Washington D.C. for one year while Clarence was in the service and then moved to rural Hawarden, where they raised their family and farmed for 45 years. During that time, they attended the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon, Iowa. In 2004, they moved to a home in Orange City, and just recently, Arletta became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mrs. Dorhout was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where she participated in the Ladies Aid and Harmony Circle. She was also a member of the Siouxland Women’s Chorus and enjoyed playing the piano and singing as well as reading, flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of more than 63 years, Clarence, of Orange City; six children, Valerie Kelly, of San Antonio, Texas; Phil Dorhout, and his wife, Kris, of Orange City; Dave Dorhout, and his wife, Judy, of Hawarden; Lisa, and her husband, Mike Krommendyk, of Orange City; Nathan Dorhout, of Rock Valley; and Sheila, and her husband, Bruce Noteboom, of Orange City; twelve grandchildren, Steven (Kelsey) Dorhout; Jamie (Marcus) Den Herder; Trevor (Heather) Dorhout; Kaira Krommendyk; Taylor (Kirsten) Dorhout; Quinton Dorhout (special friend, Mindi); Haley Noteboom; Alex Dorhout; Raegan Krommendyk; Morgan Noteboom; Sydney Krommendyk; and Jack Noteboom; two great-grandchildren, Hendrix Dorhout and Sawyer Den Herder; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Harley and Elsie Jean Mulder, of Littleton, Colorado.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husbands, Ravina and Tedd Kaemingk and Gerrit De Zeeuw; a brother, and his wife, Bernie and Linda Mulder; and a sister-in-law, Harriet Mulder.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven or Unity Christian High School.
