Mrs. Agnes Hulst, age 95, of Sheldon, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, December 9, at 2:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Paul Van Maaren will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Agnes was born on October 26, 1925, in rural Doon, the daughter of Peter Cornelius and Gertrude (Zipp) Roozing. She was raised near Doon and attended country school.

She was united in marriage to John J. Hulst, Jr. on November 29, 1950, in Hospers. They first lived in Hospers and later moved to Bellflower, California. In 1963, they returned to northwest Iowa and made their home in Hull. Agnes worked as a cook and custodian at the Boyden Hull Public Schools and she and John served as foster parents to more than thirty children. John passed away on October 11, 1997, in Rock Valley, after more than 46 years of marriage.

Mrs. Hulst was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the Women’s Circle. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary, volunteered as a 4H leader, and in later years, was part of the foster grandparent program in both Rock Valley and Hull. She also enjoyed playing the piano, which she could do by ear, embroidery, and reading.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Shannon and Dennis Baack, of Sheldon; a daughter-in-law, Norma Hulst, of San Diego, California; six grandchildren, Michael Hulst; Matthew Hulst; Gina Ramos; Holly Sheriff; Eric Baack, and his wife, Donna; Jesse Baack; and Daniel Baack; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pearl Roozing, of Hull; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Harlan Hulst; a daughter, Sharla Wohlert; three brothers, Stanley Roozing, and his wife, Ruth; Cornelius Roozing; and Peter Roozing, and his wife, Dorothy; and her special friend of ten years, Lester Van Beek.
