Mrs. Dorothy De Smit, 75, died at her home in Sheldon Saturday, after a long illness.

Mrs. De Smit was born October 1, 1882, at Burlington, Wisconsin. She lived on a farm near Hudson, South Dakota, before coming to Sheldon about ten years ago. Her husband, Peter died in 1955.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy of Sheldon, Mrs. Frank Morreau of Oregon City, Oregon, and Mrs. Harry Vander Vegte of Rock Valley, Iowa; two sons, Peter and Donald, both of Hudson, South Dakota; three brothers, Martin Gacke of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Ben Gacke of Larchwood, Iowa and August Gacke of Inwood, Iowa; two sisters, Miss Agnes Gacke of Hull, Iowa , and Mrs. John O’Connor of Rogers, Arkansas; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9:30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The Reverend J.J. Highland officiated and burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home. Rosaries were recited Monday and Tuesday evenings at the Funeral Home.
