Dick married Jessie Janet Ras on September 2, 1945, in Slayton, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Sheldon, Iowa, before moving to Worthington. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. Most of all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and as well as the family's newest additions, great-grandchildren, Vincent and Lauren.
