Monday, Jan. 2, at 5 a.m., after a fairly long illness, died of decline of strength, Mr. Willem Vander Mey, aged 77 years minus 11 days. Born on Terschelling, Ned., 13 Jan 1845, he married Tryntje Smit there. From which marriage 4 children survive, namely N. Van der Mey of Sheldon, Mr. H. H. Bomgaars, who lovingly nursed him during the last weeks of his life, with the help of her other sisters, from Middleburg, Mrs. C. Vander Meer of Alton, and Mrs. J. Vander Meer from Hospers.

In 1869 the family came to America and settled in Ridott, IL, where his wife died. With his children he then went to Allison, Bulter Co. IA., And remarried in 1881, to Mrs. Mary Brower, of Applington IA. A child was born from that marriage, but died after six months of life. The deceased lived with these in New Holland SD for about six years, and came to Orange City about 33 years ago.

In the Netherlands Mr. Vander Mey, ship captain, and as such visited many countries of the world. In America he farmed until he got to Orange City. Here he served the Slagle Lumber Co., and later the Chr. School, of which he was a sexton for 14 years and only over a year before his death, he put down his work.

His second wife preceded him in June, 1916. The brothers W. W. Brower from here and John Brower van Doon also mourn the loss of their second father Mr. Van Der Mey was a quiet, earnest man and enjoyed the commonest esteem of those who knew him, and adorned his confession with a Christian walk. He was member of the 1st Chr. Ref. Church and faithfully attended the services until physical weakness made this impossible.

Today, Wednesday, the funeral takes place; at 1 o'clock service at home, and at 1:30 in the 1st Chr. Ref. Church under the direction of Dr. R. L. Haan. The children and stepchildren are all here on this occasion, as well as many of the 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. We wish the sorrowful family the blessing and comfort of the Lord in this hour of sorrow and offer our heartfelt condolences.
