Mrs. Jeanette Vanden Hul, age 94, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a private funeral service on Thursday, November 19, at 10:00am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. Pastor Ben Vos will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation without the family will be on Wednesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Jeanette was born on July 14, 1926, in Orange City, the daughter of Marinus and Jennie (Rens) Vande Griend. She was raised in Orange City, where she attended a country school.

She was united in marriage to Roy Vanden Hul on January 19, 1949, in Orange City. They made their home on a farm north of Orange City until December of 1997 when they moved into town. In addition to being a homemaker, Jeanette worked as a cook at the Orange City Municipal Hospital for ten years. Roy passed away on June 11, 2005, in Sioux City, after more than 56 years of marriage. Jeanette moved to the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen in October of 2016 and to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City in January of 2018.

Mrs. Vanden Hul was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where she and her husband were members of the Booster Club. Together, they were also members of the Iowa State Bank Frontier Club. She also participated in Bible studies at church, and enjoyed doing word searches, baking cookies, crocheting hankies and doilies, reading, watching games shows, looking at Christmas lights, working with flowers, especially peonies which were her favorite, vegetable gardening, and going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. Jeanette also had a love for dogs and going out to eat. She would have lunch with her daughters on Fridays, mostly at the Pizza Ranch.

Survivors include her three children, Rodney Vanden Hul and Jolene Vanden Hul, both of Orange City; and Linda, and her husband, Mike Heuertz, of Le Mars; five grandchildren, Rebecca, and her husband, Gene Kerber, of Pierce, Nebraska; Jessica, and her husband, Roger Bettin, of Le Mars; Christopher Heuertz, of Carter Lake; Rachel Heuertz, of Omaha; and Nicholas Heuertz, and his wife, Amy, of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Austin and Alan Kerber; and Ally, Cadence, Dominic, and Sadie Heuertz; and a step-great-grandson, Trey Wurscher.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Nellie and Henry Vande Zandschulp; a nephew, Harlan Vande Zandschulp; and a nephew’s wife, Nancy Vande Zandschulp.

Memorials may be directed to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
