From the Sioux Center News, April 28, 1938:

Johanna Elizabeth Westra, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. Westra Jr. passed away Saturday morning, April 23rd, as a result of a seven month illness with Bright's disease. Funeral services were held Monday at the First Ref. Church, Rev. Douwstra officiating. Members of Betty's Sunday School class sang at the services. Pall bearers were Mr. A. Humme, Mr. M. Intveld, Mr. W. Warntjes, Mr. Wissink. Deceased is survived by her parents and four brothers and two sisters.

From the Alton Democrat, April 29, 1938, Hull news:

Johanna Elizabeth Westra

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Westra Jr. was born in 1930 and died on Saturday morning, April 23, at the age of 7 years and 7 months. Betty, as she was known by her friends, was ill for 7 months with Bright’s disease.

Funeral services were held Monday at 12:45 at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church. Services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Douwstra. Members of Betty’s Sunday school class sang and also the chilren from the rural school which she attended. Pallbearers were Arnold Humme, M. Intveld, H. Warntjes and Mr. Wissink. She leaves to mourn her departure her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Westra Mourn Death of Daughter

Johanna Elizabeth Westra, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter P. Westra who had been so very ill for months, passed away at the family home, northwest of Hull, early Saturday morning.

She was born September 24, 1930 and was seven years and seven months old at the time of her death. Betty, as she was usually called, was a patient sufferer, and the sincere sympathy of all goes out to the sorrowing parents and bereaved brothers and sisters.

Her death certificate gives her birthplace and residence as Perkins, Iowa; her parents as Peter P. Westra and Della Post, both born in Iowa; causes of death nephritis and hypertension (blood pressure 235), date of onset unknown.
