Charles Heemstra was born on October 9, 1878, and passed away at the Pacific Sanitarium at Garden Grove, California, on August 26, 1957.

He moved to Boyden with his parents in 1893, where he attended school and graduated from Northwestern Academy at Orange City in 1899. He attended Hope College in Michigan for two years and taught school in the rural schools in Sioux County for four years.

In 1955, he married Lena Rouwenhorst of Boyden and farmed in the Boyden vicinity for a few years. Moving to town, he was engaged in the Hardware business in Boyden until 1920, when he moved to Santa Ana, California, where he lived on a fruit ranch until retired 10 years ago.

He is survived by his widow, one brother, Dr. Jacob Heemstra of Orange City, two sisters, Miss Lydia Heemstra of Santa Ana, California, and Mrs. John C. Kuyper (Edith)’ of Riverside, California.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank in 1932, and Ben in April of this year, 1957.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 28, at 2:00 o’clock at Santa Ana, California, with Reverend Herman Rozenberg of the Parkview Church officiating.
