From the Sioux Center News, January 20, 1938:

Door Closed, Car Running, Boyden Young Man Killed

Glen James Mulhern, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Mulhern, farmers living near Sheldon, died in his car at the home of his parents near Sheldon, Monday afternoon, while repairing his car in a closed garage.

Mr. and Mrs. Mulhern left about 12 o’clock and returned at 4:30 to find the young man’s body on the seat of the car in the closed garage. The motor was no longer running but the switch was still on. Neighbors later said they saw him driving past around one o’clock and then going back again, obviously trying out the motor on the car, which belonged to him. The coroner was called and gave the verdict of accidental death due to carbon monoxide fumes.

Deceased is survived by his parents and one brother who attends Dental college in Omaha. He would have been 20 years of age in March of this year. He was a graduate of Sheldon high school and had attended Junior college. Funeral arrangements were tentatively set for Wednesday.
