Boyden Reporter of Sep 23, 1943

The entire community was shocked at the report of the death of Miss Ruthye Jackson, received Saturday morning. Mrs. Bergman, sister of Miss Jackson, was en-route to Columbia, Mo. , when the message was received. Miss Ruthye, together with her sister, Miss Maud, have been making their home in Columbia, Missouri where they were both employed at Stevens College at the Time. Death came following a short illness. Mrs A.E. Miller and Mrs. Wargowsky went to Columbia for the funeral, Monday.

Ruthye was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Jackson, pioneer Boyden residents. She was born in Boyden and educated in the local school. Her entire life, save for the past few years, has been spent in the community. Her parents operated the Hotel and Ruthye and Maud carried on after the death of their mother.
Ruthye was a profound believer in community enterprise and welfare. She worked untiringly for every project of community betterment; the Boyden park and library were close to heart. She believed in community spirit and gave of her home, hospitality and effort to weave a close bound of harmony and well-being around those who came to the Hotel. She was president of the Women's Club. She gave leadership and direction to club activities. She believed in united action with a direct purpose. She was County chairman of the T. B. Seal - She believed every child in Sioux county should be protected against T. B and she meant to do her part to help the good fight. She should be given high praise and credit for having furthered the efforts in this great work. Ruthye believed in good works and labored long for her interests. She was most worth while, and she is a rare friend, and true. Each memory of her is rich in the things that make for real living, a sense of humor seldom equaled, a charm that was hers alone. She understood even when words wouldn't come, she felt deeply and loved deeply, around her was joy and love of life and laughter. She gave of her talent of music freely and beautifully. She knew much sorrow and yet was glad. She knew her own mind and was its determined spirit yet so gentle in her feeling even in leaving, she left as Ruthye would leave, differently — she is a beautiful friend!
