Gas Tank Explodes
Louis Jacobs dies from Injuries received
His son Dewey Jacobs also has are Broken when Acetelyn tank blows up. Louis Jacobs a prominent farmer of Eagle Township was fatally injured Tuesday evening from the explosion of an acetelyn lighting tank. He died a few hours after the explosion. His son Dewey Jacobs age 17, had his arm broken and received some internal injuries but ill probably recover. The tank in the lighting system was in a pit about 75 feet from the house so that no damage resulted to the property. The explosion occurred about 6 o’clock.

The lighting system was not working right and Mr. Jacobs and his son had gone to the pit to make an investigation of the trouble. Mr. Jacobs was leaning over the hole at the time the explosion occurred and received the full force of it in the face. His face was badly shattered nearly every bone in it being fractured. His right arm was badly shattered nearly every bone in it being fractured. His right arm was badly injured and one finger was cut off. He was brought to the Hawarden Hospital but never regained consciousness. Dewey Jacobs was standing by the side of his father and was thrown some distance away from the pit by the force of the explosion. He is unable to give any solution as to the cause of the explosion.

Mr. Jacobs was 59 years of age and leaves a wife and seven children, five son and two daughters. He was on of the wealthy farmers of that community and was held in high regard by all who knew him. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed as the family is awaiting a reply from relatives at Cincinnati Ohio.
