Loren George Olson was born June 17, 1948 in Canton, South Dakota, the son of George and Jessie Olson. He was raised in the Doon and Orange City area and graduated from Maurice Orange City High in 1966. After he graduated, he farmed with his father until April of 1968. Then he entered the U.S. Army and served as a medic with the infantry during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star Medal and was honorably discharged in February of 1970.

On August 12, 1972 Loren was united in marriage to Margriet Overeem in Orange City. Together they lived on a dairy farm west of Orange City until 1994 when they moved to an acreage northeast of Granville, IA. In 2005 they moved to Sioux Center, IA.

Loren made his choice to serve the Lord when he was 11 years old, and he stayed true to that choice throughout his life. His faith and fellowship meetings in their home brought him so much joy. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, farming, gardening, reading, singing, and playing piano. One of the highlights in his retirement years was helping the Pfingsten family at harvest time. He was also a member of the Doornink-Brunsting Post 199, American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years, Margriet Olson of Sioux Center, IA; five children, Darren (Stephanie) Olson of Georgetown, TX, Dale (Karli) Olson of Waukesha, WI, Maria (Bruce) Hansen of Phoenix, AZ, Lorinda (Craig) Chipperfield of Bennington, NE and David (Trisha) Olson of Sioux Center, IA; thirteen grandchildren; four sisters, Janice (Eugene) Meyer of Evansville, IN, LuAnn (Rod) Dykstra of Sheldon, IA, Arlene (Martin) Ketelsen of Union Center, SD and Norma (Cal) Birkhofer of Sydney, NE; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jessie Olson; and brother-in-law, Everett Van’t Foort.
