Marcia Arlene Mulder was born July 30, 1931 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Mina (Schuitman) Schut. She was raised on a farm east of Sioux Center and attended country school. She graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1948 and began working at First National Bank in Sioux Center.
Marcia was united in marriage to Theron J. Mulder on June 11, 1952, at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They lived in New York for a short time while her husband was serving in the U.S. Army. During this time, Marcia worked at Chase Manhattan Bank. Fortunately, Theron and Marcia were able to live together throughout Theron's military service. During their assignment to Fort Monmouth, their first child, Marla Joyce, was born in November of 1954.
From New York, Marcia and Theron moved back to the family farm west of Sioux Center where they lived for the next 30 years. In August of 1957 their son, Eldon Paul, was born and nine-and one-half years later their last child, Teresa Ann, was born in January of 1967. Marcia helped with the day-to-day operation of the farm. She was a member of First Reformed Church, active with many church activities such as ladies circle, church choir and as a youth group leader. She also was very active with the Sioux County 4-H Club, serving as a leader and judge for many years; and was active with the Farm Bureau Choir, traveling the area and performing. Marcia also worked at Roelofs Fabrics and taught many how to do needle and quilting work.
In 2005, Marcia’s husband, Theron, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Marcia lovingly provided care for him for many years. In 2011, Marcia and Theron moved to Crown Pointe Independent Living Community in Sioux Center where they lived, surrounded by many friends. On May 8, 2013, Marcia’s husband of 60 years, Theron, passed away. She remained living at Crown Pointe and continued to stay active with family and community activities. On July 21, 2020 she was admitted to Sioux Center Health and remained there until she peacefully died at the age of 88 years.
Marcia is survived by her three children, Marla (husband, Daryl) De Groot of Hull, IA, Eldon (wife, Corina) Mulder of Anchorage, AK and Teri Bruinsma of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren; eleven grandchildren; brother, Herlan (wife, Betty) Schut of Sioux Center, IA; sister, Pauline De Haan of Sioux Center, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mina Schut; husband, Theron Mulder; brother and sister-in-law, Ellsworth and Mary Ann Schut; and brother-in-law, Tony De Haan.
