RESEARCH NOTES

FindaGrave.com shows him (as John Lucas) buried in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Born 30 Jan 1893 in Alton, Iowa, parents Jan Lucas (1852-1939) and Dirkje Bomgaars Lucas (1852-1920). Spouse, Jenefer Krenerick Lucas (1902-1994).

His World War I draft registration card shows him as John Lucas jr., age 24, a student at Cedar Falls, Iowa; born January 3[sic], 1893 in Alton, Iowa; single; medium height and build, grey eyes, black hair. The Sioux County soldiers’ discharge record book (Sioux County Courthouse) shows that he served with Hdg. Train Detach State Univ. of Iowa 6/15/18-8/12/18, and with Eng[ineers] Corp., Camp Forest, Georgia, 8/13/18-1/30/19.

His World War II draft registration card has him as John Alan Lucas, resident of Granville Township, Milwaukee, Wis.; age 49, born January 30, 1893 in Alton, Iowa; wife Jenefer Lucas.

Submitter’s notes: His correct birth date is January 30, 1893 (birth announcement, Alton Democrat, Feb. 4, 1893). All during his residence in Alton he was known as John Lucas jr.; he seems to have acquired the middle name of Alan some time after he moved permanently to Milwaukee in 1929/1930. He graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1922 with a B.A. in Education and from the University of Iowa in 1924 with a master’s degree in history, and attended summer school at the University of Wisconsin in 1928. He subsequently taught history, civics, and social science in Milwaukee high schools (as did his wife). He married Jenefer Krenerick in Milwaukee on 24 June 1931 (Alton Democrat).
John and Jenefer appear to have had no children.
