IRETON, IOWA – Marjorie E. Johnson, 94, of Ireton, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her residence under hospice care.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2020 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Public viewing, without the family present, will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and facial masks are highly recommended. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials be directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marjorie’s memory.

Marjorie E. Johnson was born May 19, 1926 at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Bruce and Flossie (Thomas) Houlton. She graduated from the Ireton High School in 1944. She married Ervin Johnson on December 1, 1946 at the Houlton house in Ireton. Before their marriage, Ervin served in the Merchant Marines. Marjorie attended NBL Business College in Sioux City for 2 years.

Marjorie and Ervin farmed in the Ireton area for 24 years. Ervin died in 1969. She then built a house in Ireton and worked for 21 years at the Security Savings Bank until retirement.

Marjorie was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, teaching catechism and Sunday school, and a member of the LWML She loved to quilt, sew, and crochet. She especially loved to cook for her family and looked forward to them coming home to visit.

Survivors include her daughters, Margene and her husband Jerry Meins of Houston, Texas, Linda Murphy also of Houston, and Pam and her husband Steve Stricker of Naperville, Illinois, her sons, Pastor Paul Johnson and his wife Cindy of May City, Iowa and Dr. Richard Johnson of Hawarden, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Gloria (Chad) Ping of Ireton; 12 grandchildren, Ben (Roni) Murphy, Meg Murphy, Ashley (John) Schempp, Aaron (Holly) Johnson, Mike Murphy, Joshua (Kendra) Johnson, Adam (Amelia) Johnson, Andrew (Ciara) Johnson, Kari (Chad) Halstenson, Alan Johnson, Jonathan (Kelsi) Stricker and Samantha Stricker; 22 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and also a special friend, Merlin Rostermundt.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; sons, Robert Johnson and Tom Johnson; son-in-law, Rob Murphy; daughters-in-law, Dixie Johnson and Sandra Johnson; 6 sisters and a brother.
