Wendorf, Carl no dates buried in St Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery Hull IA (WPA Index)

A good deal of research was put into the identity of this Carl Wendorf by the submitter, a young German is all have to go on, no dates.

Accumulated a few possibilities. The church at St Paul's Lutheran church rural Hull should be contacted for more information as to birth and death date etc. There were two families of Wendorf living in the area of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in 1885, Fred and Augusta, and August and Sharlotta. This Carl could have been the son of one of those families.

Rock Rapids Review of May 2, 1884
From the Pattersonville Index (Hull) Charles Wendorf a young German living about four miles north of Pattersonville, met with a sad accident last Saturday. In attempting to remove a loaded shot gun from the corner behind the bed the hammer struck the bad in a manner that discharged the gun, the contents of which struck this right arm near the shoulder, making an ugly wound. Drs. N. c. O. Coad, E. O. Plumb and C. L. Gurney were immediately called and dressed the wound, and it is thought by skillful treamtment no amputation will be required.

No further word was found is this young man died from his wounds and was if he the Carl mention in the entry above. He possibly could have been the son of Fred Wendorf age 50 born Germany, in 1885 census of Lincoln Tsp. Sioux County. Wife Augusta age 50 born Germany. All their children listed were born in Wisconsin, Ella 20, Adella, 21, Alfred 17, Sarah 16 and George 13.

That family lived in Sioux County only a short time early 1880s – mid to late 1880s.
There were several Carl Wendorfs that came as single young men to the USA 1881-1884, that could have been this Carl, so uncertain to his identity.
