Mrs. Mina De Smit, age 95, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, June 12, at 2:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. A private family interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation without the family will be on Friday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mina Alida was born on January 13, 1925, in Orange City, the daughter of William “Bill” and Dena (Huisman) Huitink. She was raised in rural Orange City, Newkirk, and Middleburg, where she attended country schools through the eighth grade.

On February 27, 1951, she married Arie De Smit in Orange City. Mina was a homemaker and helped her husband farm near Orange City. After retiring from farming the couple moved into Orange City. Arie passed away on November 27, 2005, in Orange City, after more than 54 years of marriage.

Mrs. De Smit was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. She enjoyed attending auctions with her husband, playing table games, and having coffee with friends at Hardees. In January of this year, Mina became a resident of the Happy Siesta Care Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda De Smit, of Orange City; and her nephews and nieces and their families, Carol and Jack Oolman, and Leona and Jerry De Boer, all of Orange City; Wilson and Marilyn Huitink, of Sloan; Jim and Lorri Huitink, of Sheldon; Diane and Marlin Vollink, of Orange City; Harlan and Nelva Huitink, of Hospers; Arnie and Helen De Smit, of Orange City; and Albertha De Jong, of Rock Rapids.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Henry and Viola Huitink; and two brothers-in-law and their wives, Pete and Edna De Smit, and Leonard and Tena De Smit.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School.
