Harvey Dale was born on September 27, 1946, in Orange City, the son of Dick and Roevina (Cleveringa) Van Klompenburg. He was raised in Alton and graduated from the Floyd Valley High School.

On June 5, 1970, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Kay Bomgaars in Newkirk. They made their home in Orange City, where they raised their family and were faithful members of the First Reformed Church.

Prior to retirement, “Harv” spent 25 years working at the maintenance department of Northwestern College in Orange City. He and his brother also farmed together for many years.

Harv’s pride and joy was his family. Their times together were always filled with laughter and love, and the holidays were always a very special time for them. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Northwestern Red Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings. He was very handy, and there was very little he couldn’t tinker with and eventually find a fix. A proud achievement of his was restoring a 1954 Dodge that belonged to his grandfather. He also liked woodworking and had made several beautiful items for his children.

Survivors include his wife of more than 49 years, “Cheri”; a son, Mark Van Klompenburg, of Orange City; a daughter and her husband, Kara and Steve Dean, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Aaron Dean, Allie Boedeker, and Asher Dean; his siblings, Delmar and Clarine Van Klompenburg, of Maurice; Rosalyn and Ronald Wenstrand, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Richard and Rhonda Van Klompenburg, of Hospers; a brother-in-law, Dennis Cordle, of Iowa City; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marlene, and her husband, Henry Pennings; and Delores Cordle.

Memorials may be directed to Project 78 at the First Reformed Church or Northwestern College.
