Marie Vanden Berg, 93, of Sioux Center, formerly of Ireton, died Thursday, July 27, 1995 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital nursing wing. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Ireton. The Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Marie was born July 11,1902 in Doon, the daughter of Sam and Mary (Beckman) Pedersen. She worked as a cook at the hospital in Hull, and married Peter J. Vanden Berg Sept. 24, 1923 in Hull. The couple lived in Hull until moving to Ireton in 1936 where they owned and operated the City Meat Market until his death May 6, 1952.

Mrs. Vanden Berg then moved to Orange City and became the cook at the Orange City Hospital. In 1967 she moved back to Ireton and worked as a cook at the Christian Reformed School until retiring in 1977. Mrs. Vanden Berg moved to the Sioux Center Community Hospital nursing wing Sept. 30, 1987. Mrs. Vanden Berg was a 65-year member of the First Reformed Church of Ireton.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Cornie and Eldora of Ireton; two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Pete Eisma and Mary Ann and Jacob Hulshof, all of Ireton; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Luella of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four sisters, Emma Pedersen and Helen Koppien, both of Sioux Falls, Esther and her husband Rich Dirks of Harrisburg, S.D., and Elvira and her husband Emil Serck of In wood; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard; and two sisters, Henrietta Knutson and Lorena Kahl.
