Mr. Dwayne De Jong, age 67, of Hull, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020, at Sioux Center Health.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 4, at 10:00am at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. A private family interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation without the family will be on Sunday, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Dwayne Arlen was born on January 6, 1953, in Hull, the son of Thomas E. and Hilda (Kroese) De Jong. He was raised on his family’s farm near Perkins and attended the Hull Christian School. He graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull before enlisting in the Air National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Dolores Faye Smit on April 5, 1974, in Hull. Together they made their home with their four children in Hull, before moving to the De Jong family farm in 1990. Along with being a farmer, he worked at Kooiker Manufacturing in Hull and drove truck for several area trucking companies including Van Iperens, Altena, and Eagle Transport. He also worked for Rod’s Sanitation in Hull for several years.

Mr. De Jong was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s various activities, traveling, spending the winter in Texas, camping, cruising around town in his side by side, and watching old black and white television shows on his 75 inch flatscreen with full surround sound.

Survivors include his wife of more than 46 years, “Dori”; three sons and their wives, Tim and Joni De Jong, of Larchwood; Michael and Kim De Jong, of Rock Valley; and Travis and Kari De Jong, of Orange City; ten grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Easton, Jaxton, Jaelyn, Tayjen, Kinley, Kennedy, Briggs, and Krew; his wife’s mother, Myra June Broek, of Hull; two sisters-in-law, Donna, and her husband, Rob Fedders, and Glenda Oolman, all of Hull; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Doug and Lori Smit, of Hull.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Joy De Jong; his brother, Glen De Jong; his father-in-law, John Smit, Jr.; and his step-father-in-law, Albert Broek.

Memorials may be directed to the high school softball teams of Unity Christian, Western Christian, or West Lyon.
