Pearl Wiersma, 28, Died at Lynden, Wash., Last Week

Relatives here received the sad news of the death of Miss Pearl Wiersma, twenty-eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wiersma of Lynden, Washington, formerly of Hull. She was buried at Lynden on Monday of this week. The cause of her death was not stated. The Wiersmas have many friends here in Hull, all of whom extend sincere sympathy to them.

From the Sioux County Capital, December 23, 1937:

Miss Pearl Wiersma passed away at her home in Lynden, Wash. Friday Dec. 17, 1937 at the age of 29 years. She had been an invalid since infancy. She was the daughter of John and Nellie Hartog Wiersma.

She was born on a farm northeast of Hull and had moved with her parents about a year ago from Hull to Washington. Her father was an auctioneer and real estate dealer in Hull for many years.

She is survived by her parents, four brothers, Elmer and Raymond of Lynden, Wash., John and Sam of Sheldon; Mrs. Lane (Sadie) Vanden Bos and Mrs. Anna Englesman of Chicago. Another sister died in infancy.

The funeral services were held in Lynden, Wash., Monday.

From De Volksvriend, December 30, 1937, Lynden, Washington news:

(In Dutch, translation) Friday, 17 December, Miss Pearl, 30-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wiersma (Nellie Hartog), died. She was born in Hull, Iowa, and suffered from seizures since she was 1-1/2 years old, and died in a seizure. She is survived by her parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. She was able to do particularly beautiful handicrafts (fancy work). The funeral was held Monday at the first Christian Reformed church, under direction of Rev. D. Hollebeek. There was a large turnout.

Wiersma (1904-1971), Sadie Wiersma VandenBosch (1909-1987), John J. Wiersma (1911-1952), Nelson Raymond Wiersma (1917-1985), and Elmer John Wiersma (1923-1946). There is a photo of her headstone.
