Leonard Marion Adams, the son of Frank and Ethel (Flint) Adams, was born on a farmstead north of Everly, Iowa on July 4, 1923. His early school years were spent in a country school called Wallace School in Westport Township in Dickinson County, Iowa. This school is now a museum at Okoboji, Iowa. He also attended rural school at District 5 near Hartley, as well as Hartley High School.

On June 4, 1948, Leonard was united in marriage to Ruth Boernsen at St. John's Lutheran Church at May City, Iowa, and to this union six children were born. They spent most of their lifetime farming and raising livestock north of Hartley. Leonard had a trucking business. He also did a lot of custom baling until retiring and moving into the town of Hartley in 1994.

Leonard was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hartley. He was an avid collector of Coca-Cola bottles and Hartley memorabilia. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, and visiting family and friends. One of his favorite joys and pastimes was being a prominent Shorthorn breeder and promoter. Some of his "Len-Ru" Pedigree are still used today and sought out by many other breeders. He cherished the time that he could spend with his family, and especially his grandchildren.

He and Ruth were happily married for 56 years.

Leonard died at Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 24, 2005, at the age of 81 years, six months and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Claudia in 1975.
