EDWARD EARL DIED MONDAY AT HOME NORTHWEST OF HAWARDEN--WAS 75 YEARS OLD AND LIVED IN THIS COMMUNITY SINCE 1871--LEAVES WIDOW AND FIVE CHILDREN

Ed Earl, who spent practically all his life in this vicinity, passed away at 9:30 Monday evening at his home in Lincoln County, nine miles northwest of Hawarden, following a lingering illness. Mr. Earl was a sufferer from arthritis the past year and he grew weaker gradually until death claimed him.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Hawarden at 2 o’clock this afternoon with Reverend Robert F. Chapler in charge. Interment will be in the Hudson Cemetery.

Ed Earl, son of Jack and Margaret (Reese) Earl, was born in Wisconsin June 16, 1864, and passed away January 9, 1940, having attained the age of 75 years, 6 months and 23 days. When seven years of age he came to Sioux County with his parents and they located on a farm in Washington Township. Fifty two years ago he moved onto a farm in Lincoln County, nine miles northwest of Hawarden, and lived on this farm continuously since that time.

He was united in marriage with Nora Bell Black at Beresford New Year’s day, 1890, and they observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on January 1st of this year. Five children were born to this union, who together with the wife survive him. The children are Mrs. B.F. McManaman of Hawarden; Harry Earl of Hudson; Mrs. Ervin Bechtel of Sibley; Edward Earl, who operates the home farm and Miss Ethel Earl at home. He also leaves three brothers, Will of Sacramento, California; Floyd of Witten, South Dakota and Jerome, who resides in Canada.

Mr. Earl united with the Methodist Church in Hudson and remained a member until last year when he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in Hawarden. He was widely known and Universally poplar among the older residents of this community. Possessed of a genial, friendly disposition, he had the capacity for making and holding friends and there are many outside the family circle who will mourn his passing.
