From the Sioux County Index (Hull), October 22, 1937:

Sam Pederson, Of Inwood, Died Thursday, October 11 [i.e., 14]

The sad death of Mr. Sam Pederson, of Inwood, reached relatives and friends here last week Thursday. He was well known in Hull and was a brother-in-law of H. B. Beckman, Mrs. J. H. Beckman, Mrs. Henry Breuer and Mrs. W. J. Lutjens of this place.

Soren Pederson was born May 2, 1872 in Rolstrup, Denmark. He died October 14, 1937 at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was baptized in infancy. In his boyhood years he was instructed in the Word of God and confirmed at the usual age. As a young man he came to America. He became a citizen of the United States at the age of 24 years. In the year 1902 he entered holy wedlock with Miss Mary Beckman of Hull, Iowa.

They spent the first eight years of their wedded life in Doon, Iowa, where he was engaged in the dray business. From Doon they moved to a farm six miles north of Hull where they farmed for six years. For the next six years they lived on a farm two miles north of Boyden. From there they moved to their present home two miles south and one and one-quarter miles west of Inwood.

They became the parents of nine children, all of whom live to mourn the death of their father. They are: Mrs. Marie Vanden Berg of Ireton; Emma, Mrs. Lawrence Knutson, Howard, Helen, Mrs. Emil Serch, Lorena, Kenneth, and Esther, all of Inwood. Besides these he leaves to mourn his death: his wife; three brothers—Pete, who still resides in Denmark, Chris of Long Beach, California and Jack of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

The deceased had always been in good health up to about February of this year when he became ill from influenza. The after-effects of this [one line obscured] physical condition which resulted in a congestion of his lungs and made him bedfast since the month of June, and finally brought about his death which came quietly at 10:30 o’clock Thursday morning in the hospital at Hudson, his faithful wife and several children being at his bedside.

The deceased was a faithful worker, was honest and reliable in his dealings with his fellowmen, a loyal husband, a provident father and a good friend. The community extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the Lutheran Church, Inwood, Iowa, Rev. A. G. Bretthauer officiating. Funeral was in Richland Township Cemetery west of Doon.
