From the Hawarden Independent, January 5, 1956:

Funeral services were held yesterday for the oldest resident of Hawarden, Mrs. Sjoukje Jacobsma who would have been 102 years old next month. Mrs. Jacobsma died Sunday [January 1] at the Hawarden hospital where she had been confined the last nine days.

The services were held at the Protestant Reformed church in Orange City and burial was there under the direction of the Frasier Funeral Home of Hawarden. Rev. B. Vanden Brink of Hawarden and Rev. John De Jong of Orange City had charge of the services.

Mrs. Jacobsma was born in Holland and was married in her native land. She came to America in 1882 with her husband. They settled in Orange City and lived there until Mr. Jacobsma's death. Mrs. Jacobsma moved to Hawarden to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. P. J. Lubsen, in 1945. She had been a member of the Orange City Protestant Reformed church Ladies Aid Society over 50 years and each year the group helped her celebrate her birthday in Hawarden.

Besides Mrs. Lubsen, other survivors are two children, Mrs. Jeanette Den Hartog of Hawarden and Adam Jacobsma of Parker, S.D.; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
