Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, May 21, at the First Reformed Church in Hospers, for William Ver Doorn, who passed away in Doorink Hospital Monday, May 17, after a lingering illness. Reverend G. Docter, pastor of the First Reformed Church and Reverend Z. Roetman of Orange City were in charge of the services. Interment was in the Hospers Cemetery.

Mr. Ver Doorn was born in Noord Brabauge, The Netherlands, and he is the son of Hendrik and Emke (Boubos) Ver Doorn,and died May 17, 1948, at the age of 74 years. When a young man of 18, he came to Sioux County with his parents, and they made their home near Middleburg. In 1904 he was married to Miss Kate Jurrians of Orange City. They lived on a farm near Newkirk until1937, when they retired and moved to Hospers.

They were parents of six children, five boys and a daughter. A son and daughter preceded him in death.

Surviving are the widow, Kate and these children: Henry Ver Doorn of Alton, Daniel Ver Doorn of Hollandale, Minnesota, Andrew Ver Doorn missing and John Ver Doorn of Hospers. There are seven grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Jake Hennink of Rock Valley, Mrs. Herman Luymes of Boyden, Mrs. C. Van Zee of Rock Valley; and three brothers, Dick Ver Doorn and Arie Ver Doorn of Hollandale, Minnesota and Anthony Ver Doorn of Bellflower, California.
