Bart Van Zyl, an old gentleman, age 54 years, one of the oldest settlers in the county, died Sunday, May 15, and was buried Tuesday.

Deceased died of dropsy of the kidneys.

Note: He was an 1870 pioneer of Sioux County, Iowa. His parents were Roelof van Zijl and Jannigje de Jong [or Jongh].

He and his wife, Tryntje (Koutstaal) Van Zyl, had 6 children, two of them, Roelof b. 1856 and Cornelis, b. 1863, dying in infancy.
