HILDA ADELA UILK was born on December 7, 1923 to Herman and Margaret (Heinsohn) Winter in Olivet, South Dakota. In 1930, Hilda and her family relocated to a farm near Boyden, Iowa where she attended parochial school. On January 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Herman Uilk at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyden. During their first three years of marriage, the couple farmed southwest of Jasper, Minnesota. The following ten years were spent on their farm in Pipestone, Minnesota before purchasing a farm in Rose Dell Township of Rock County, Jasper, Minnesota. They resided here until Herman’s retirement in November, 1985 when they moved to Pipestone. Herman preceded her in death on June 30, 1990. Hilda continued to live in their home until November, 2017 when she moved to Sunrise Village in Jasper. She entered hospice care at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone and passed away surrounded by family on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the age of 95 years, ten months and seven days.

Hilda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. She was baptized on January 6, 1924 at her home and confirmed on March 21, 1937 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyden. She was also a member of the Couple’s Club, Ladies Aid and Helping Hand Club as well as the bible study and quilting groups. Hilda made her first quilt with her mother shortly after marriage and was an avid quilter starting in the 1970’s. Many were done for charity and church functions in addition to those that her family enjoyed.

Hilda is lovingly remembered by her children, Leon (Diana) of Pipestone, Marlys (Dwight) Rafferty of The Villages, Florida, Joyce (Chuck) Hammer of Pipestone, Wayne (Becky) of Jasper, and Darla (Bill) Morton of Brighton, Colorado; 13 grandchildren, Jarrod (Heidi) Uilk and their children, John, Jacob, Jordan, Jonah and Hannah, Janelle (Scott) Hampton and their children, James and Jonathan, Rachelle (Matt) Mayse and their children, Kenzie, Mariah, Emma and Micah, Chad (Hayley) Rafferty and their son, Noah, Kara (Jim) Rieke and their children, Gretchen, Nora and Julia, Cherelle (fiancé, Jason) Hammer and children, Carter and Chelby, Seth (Jessica) Hammer and their children Evan and Karley, Ashley (Ryan) Delahoyde and their children, Benson, Kolbe and Brecken, Heather (Brent) Bielec and their children, Anders and Edyn, Tyler (Dannie) Uilk and their children, Rush and Case, Nic (Kristen) Uilk and their children, Chloe, Luella and Ingrid, Rebecca Morton and her daughter, Georgia and Shelley (Alan) LaMar and their daughter, Katie; siblings, Alvin Winter of Whitesboro, Texas, Ruben Winter of Sheldon, Iowa, Luella Loges of Boyden, and Norven Winter of Boyden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Uilk; three premature great-grandsons; her parents; sisters, Louise Uilk, Elsie Fick, and Meta Fick; and brothers, August and Gerhardt.
