Marion Bobby Rus, age 67, passed away Sunday morning, February 23, 2020 at his home in Greenville surrounded by loved ones following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born to Cornelius and Katherine (Wallenburg) Rus on December 3, 1952 in Parkston, South Dakota, Marion was the fifth of 12 children. In 1959, he and his family moved to Iowa.
He later move to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1973. On November 30, 1974, Marion was united in marriage with Judy Bendel. After the birth of their second child in 1980, the couple built their home along Wabasis Creek in Greenville, Michigan where they raised their six children. While living there, Marion went into concrete construction joining Veneklasen’s Construction until they closed in 2002. From there, he went on to join Davis Construction where he was able to develop great friendships with his boss, Rob, and many other coworkers. He retired from there in November of 2018. Marion enjoyed his work with Davis Construction. After his retirement, Marion began to get more into doing woodwork.
He had strength, he had passion, he had courage. Marion was the kind of person that would lend a helping hand whenever he could. If someone needed assistance with their car, he would be there to lend a helping hand. Whenever anyone needed an extra hand with projects and additions to their home, Marion would have his hammer ready.
In his spare time, Marion has dedicated much of his time making memories with family and friends. He truly enjoyed his summers at the lake and just being in the company of friends and loved ones back by the creek. He enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere out on the waters while fishing and camping. Marion is survived by his wife, Judy; six children, Micheal Rus of Cedar Springs, Michigan, Christina and Jason Atwood of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Jennifer and David Thrush of Comstock Park, Michigan, Amy Rus of Greenville, Michigan, Jessica Rus of Greenville, Michigan, and Cassidy Rus of Lowell, Michigan; ten grandchildren; nine brothers and one sister; two brother-in-laws and five sisters-in-laws. Preceding Marion in death were his parents, Cornelius and Katherine; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Loretta Bendel; brother and sister-in-law Willie and Sharon Rus; granddaughter Sophie Rus; and two nephews, Jamie and Trevor Rus. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 29, at 10:30 am at Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville, Michigan with Pastor Chris Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Eureka Township Cemetery. Visitation with family will be held on Friday, February 29, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home.
