EUGENE “GENE” L. EGDORF
Eugene “Gene” Lyle Egdorf, the son of Ernest and Edna (Schloetje) Egdorf, was born December 21, 1934 near Boyden, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm north of Boyden, Iowa where he received his education in country school through the 8th grade. In later years he obtained his G.E.D. On September 12, 1956 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Van Den Bosch in Boyden, Iowa. Early in their marriage Gene was called into the Army being stationed at Fort Hood, Texas for three months. Lorraine joined him there until he was sent to Germany and was stationed there 18 months. Gene proudly served his country and was Honorably Discharged in June of 1959. He returned to Boyden to make his home where the couple raised their two children, Daryl and Linn. He was employed by Grooters Implement in Boyden for many years and later worked for the City of Boyden as the Water Superintendent. After retiring from the City, he started Gene’s Lawn Service and enjoyed every minute on his John Deere. The couple remained in Boyden until moving to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in 2017. Gene moved to Prairie View Campus in Sanborn in August of 2019. He passed away at Senior Care in Sheldon on Thursday, February 20, 2020 reaching the age of 85 years, 1 month and 29 days.

Gene was a lifelong resident of Boyden and cared deeply for his community and served on many boards. He enjoyed sports, world news, working in his workshop, and visiting with others while sharing a good laugh over a cup of coffee. Gene and Lorraine enjoyed cruises and trips to Hawaii and Spain and spending a night out with friends having dinner and going dancing.
Family was very important to Gene and Lorraine. They attended the activities of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they could. The camping trips with their children will always be remembered.
