Mr. Earl Vore, age 91, of Maurice, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, February 25, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Wick Hubers will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery near Maurice. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Earl Kenton was born on March 4, 1928, in Maurice, the son of Roscoe McKinley and Cora (Levering) Vore. He grew up in Maurice and graduated from the Maurice High School. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and later served in the Marine Corps Reserve before being honorably discharged in 1952.

On June 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Hoefling in Maurice. Together they made their home in Maurice where they raised their five children. Earl operated the Maurice Truck Service, a trucking and corn shelling business. Bev passed away on April 18, 1974, in Le Mars.

On June 3, 1976, Earl married Lois Frieda (Johnson) Holtdorf in Ireton. They also made their home in Maurice where in later years Earl worked for the City of Maurice maintaining the community’s various properties. Lois passed away on April 13, 1995, in Le Mars. In March of 2018, Earl became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mr. Vore was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Maurice and was a member of the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post 329 in Orange City. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing and was often seen around the area collecting pop cans to recycle.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Debra Vore, of Maurice; Curtis and Lori Vore, of Merrill; Todd and Laurie Vore, of Alton; and Larry and Brenda Vore, of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Kerri Jo and Robert Buckley, of Orange City; a step-daughter and her husband, Barb and Leon Vanden Berg, of Silver Springs, Maryland; 13 grandchildren, Jason Vore; Spencer Vore, and his wife, Emily; Quinton Vore; Preston Vore; Justin Vore, and his wife Michelle; Tasha Vore; Joseph Vore; Christopher Vore; Timothy Vore; Larry Vore; Joshua Vore; Kenton Vore; and SSGT E-6 Clayton Buckley, and his wife, Katherine; seven great-grandchildren Theo, Treyton, Abbi, Alex, Camden, Alyssa, and Wyatt; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kristi Holtdorf; a brother, Clarence Vore; and a sister, Erma Besett.
