She came to this country with her parents when she was eight years old and grew to womanhood in Orange City, Iowa. On February 25, 1892 she was united in marriage to Peter H. Van Wyk. They immediately came to the farm located south of Hull, Iowa where they resided for 27 years before retiring in Hull, Iowa.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1938. To this union ten children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The oldest daughter, Nellie, passed away at the age of 18 years.

Those who mourn her death are: Will of Warlingen, Texas; Dora, Mrs. George Vande Garde of Hull, Iowa; Florence, Mrs. John Huibregtse of Orange City, Iowa; John P. of Hull, Iowa; Eva, Mrs. John Alberson of Artestia, California; Dr. Hubert of Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1943 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Hoksbergen who preceded her in death in 1955.

Mr. Bertha Van Wyk--Hoksbergen made confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was a continuous member of the First Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa for 72 years. She was a faithful attendant at the worship services until the last few years when she was unable to attend because of her inability to walk and to hear. She continued to have a very keen interest in all the work of her Church. She was a living witness to the Savior and we trust that her examples of its interest and faithfulness will be an example and inspiration to all of you who mourn her departure.
