Fred Schmidt, long time George resident, died Thursday at W A well-known resident of the George area who came to Lyon county in 1894 at the age of five died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Center in George He is Fred Scbmdt,90.. Funeral services were held today Monday at SL John's Lutheran church of rural Boyden with the Rev Rudy O. Wendel officiating. Burial was in St John's cemetery under the direction of the Vogelaar Funeral home of George Bearers were Donald Bracker. Loren Stegeman, Waldo Hollander. David Vaselaar, Rodney Cole and Fredwin Trei.

Fred Schmidt was born in Germany February I, 1879, a son of Peter and Margaret (Kruse) Schmidt. In 1894, at the age of five, he came to the United States and settled in Lyon county that same year On March 12,1903. lie married Anna Woelber. Tlie couple farmed in Lyon county until 1939 when they retired and moved to George.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Herman, of George, three daughters; Martha. Mrs. Henry Hundt of Boyden, Kate. Mrs. Emil Stegeman of Boyden and Mrs. Dora Hall of Akron, Ohio. Also surviving are a brother in Germany; nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
